Worship and Music

Wesley United Worship and Music Committee

April 4, 2024 10 am in Wesley Library

The committee held its regular monthly meeting on April 4, 2024.

The committee heard from George Cleland that the Palm Sunday and Easter Services were well received. Some members of Wesley also sang in the choir on Good Friday at Central United Church.

Rev. Scarlett did not have a minister’s report to give.

In his music director’s report, George reported that he would not be at church on April 28, but would have a replacement. He also mentioned that he would not be available during the week in July due to a professional commitment. He will be there on Sundays in July.

The issue of TV screens replacing the projected screen is on hold until Shawn gets three detailed quotes.

The issue of YouTube videos was discussed with the preference from the committee that generally, only one video be used per service with the preference being for live music. If something is really important, the committee felt that two would be okay. It was also mentioned that YouTube videos not be used during communion, but live music be played at that time.

The committee talked about building the choir and asked George if there was anything more we could do. We discussed greater use of the digital sign, announcements inviting the congregation to join the choir and advertising.

George will be getting much more involved in hymn choices and will give Lennox a list of his choices each week.

During the round table, Lennox asked how much decision making power he had. He indicated he felt restricted at times by having to run things through the W&M committee.  The committee felt that decisions should be made by the committee which includes Lennox and not by the Lennox himself.

In the future, when announcements are done on Sunday, Lennox will follow up by asking the congregation, “Does anyone wish to make an announcement or share any news?”

The next meeting will be May 2.
